NOTE TO THE READER:

Please treat these records as secondary sources. Although some of the data
on these pages is from primary sources the remainder has been provided
to me by secondary sources (e.g., records from other persons, books that
are not official documents, etc...). These sources in most cases are accurate
but on occasion records have been passed on, that have invalid data
and/or transcription errors.

It is best that when researching your family lines that you take secondary
records as just that; a starting place. Armed with the secondary
information you can go to the towns and villages where your family lived
and look up the primary data. I hope that what you find here will inspire
you to dig into your roots and share that information with others.

Sage Joyner gave me information that there was a George Washington Ballou who
had a daughter named Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ballou born 26 May 1863 in West
Medway, MA. This could be our Lizzie. West Medway is about 11 miles west of
				Sharon, MA.

Norm Wobesky provided the following: (16 Sept 1999)

I noticed your posting, and since some of my wife's people had connections
with the Ballous, I thought I would check some of the VRs which are held at
				the Haverhill Public Library.

The marriage of Lizzie Sarah Ballou, age 18, daughter of George W. and Eliza
(Daniels) Ballou, born Franklin[?], to Willard A. Estey, age 29, a teacher, born
Sharon, son of Willard G. and Mary, is recorded in both Sharon and Ashburnham
records; they were married in Sharon by H. C. Weston, Minister, 3 Jan 1881.
				Mass VR 326:320 and 327:287.

Sarah Elizabeth Ballou was born 26 May 1863, in Medway, to George Ballou,
Manufacturer, born R.I., and Eliza Ballou, born Medway. Mass. VR 160:215.

Based on this information, it appears that *Lizzie Sarah* and *Sarah
				Elizabeth* are the same person.

In the Franklin VRs, *The Record of Births, Marriages and Deaths in the Town
of Franklin from 1778 to 1872,* published by the Town in 1898: Marriage on 27
April 1854 of George W. Ballou, born Cumberland, RI,, son of Thurston and Caroline
Ballou, age 22, bootmaker, residence Franklin, MA, to Eliza J. Daniels, 16, born
Medway, daughter of Willard and Elizabeth Daniels, residence Medway, by P.
Crandon, M. E. Minister of Woonsocket, RI.

Sometime around 1921, when she was about 13 years of age, Violet took ill with
jaundice or what today is called hepatitis. She suffered from the effects of
this for a long period of time. Due to the need for constant care and her
mother being burdened with the chores of boarding people in the home, Violet
went to San Marino, CA to live for a time with her Uncle John and Aunt Gurtie
Abel. This is where my mother learned to sew, knit and crochet. This was
the time when she played in the historic adobe house which stands by the
swimming pool at the San Marino High School. Violet made many of her clothes
including her wedding dress. She also learned from her Aunt Gurtie how to
paint green pottery and china and glaze the same.

My memories of my mother while I was growing up are of a woman who had many
talents and from her, I believe I gained the attitude that nothing was
impossible to do. (George Warren Estey. 1997)
